The principle of PIV

Basic PIV Setup

?

PIV systems range from rather simple set-ups up to highly complex integrated solutions. Let’s take a short tour through the components.

+
1

Light source

The “flash” of your system: Typically, a green laser with repetition rates from a couple of Hz to several kHz. Alternatively, LED based solutions are available.

+
2

Optics

Planar PIV works by illuminating only a very thin cross-section of the flow, the “light sheet”.

+
3

Cameras

Capture your region-of-interest with our specialized cameras: Go high resolution, time resolved, stereoscopic, etc… Just as your task demands.

+
4

Synchronizer

A crucial part of PIV is timing: When you have flows going super-sonic and beyond, every nanosecond counts. Our synchronizer is just that piece of hardware to handle this.

Seeding

There’s no PIV without particles: there are multiple solutions to infuse your fluid with just the right amount of seeding.

+
6

Workstation

Nothing works without it in a digitized world: Take control of all your subsystems via our intuitive software solutions.

+
7

PIV Software

The image data is transformed into velocity information via cross correlation. Get the most out of your raw-data with PIVview in combination with the Scheduler for efficient batch processing.

+
8

Traversing

For some tasks, a tripod mounted camera is just fine, for others you need more degrees of freedom: Move along axis using linear traversing units, or get the total freedom of a robot-mounted system.

+
9

Power Box

Sometimes a simple switch is simply not enough: switch your hardware remotely via ethernet and integrate it into your automated system.

+
10

Seeding Sensor

Don’t trust your eyes: Quantify and observe your seeding density constantly and get feedback via ethernet.

+

Valve Switch

When the valve is just out of reach: Remotely control your amount of seeding via Ethernet, just like the rest of our hardware… and as our tour ends here, you’re now prepared to browse our components.
