Sprays & Nozzles

Quantifying Atomization
Spray nozzle
In fuel injection, coating processes, agricultural spraying or any other spray process, the efficiency of the system is defined by the quality of the atomization. Understanding the interaction between the liquid sheet, ligament breakup, and final droplet transport requires more than just a single measurement technique. ILA_5150 provides a comprehensive diagnostic suite for spray analysis, combining Shadowgraphy and PIV to characterize the entire spray lifecycle.

Complete Spray Characterization
Our systems move beyond simple visualization to provide quantitative data on every aspect of the spray:
  • Droplet Sizing: Using advanced shadowgraphy algorithms, we detect and measure individual droplets to generate precise size distributions (Sauter Mean Diameter, D10, D90).
  • Velocity & Dynamics: By applying PIV algorithms to the droplet field, we resolve the velocity vectors of the spray, revealing entrainment effects and propagation speed.
  • Geometry Analysis: Automated routines instantly calculate the global spray angle and footprint pattern at various distances from the nozzle.
Automated Mapping:
Sprays are rarely uniform. To capture the full spatial distribution, our systems can be fully automated. By linking the spray test bench to our PIV System Manager, the system can autonomously traverse the spray cross-section, mapping droplet size and velocity distributions across the entire cone volume without manual intervention.

Complete Characterization

Measure droplet size, velocity, and spray geometry by combining Shadowgraphy and PIV techniques..

Automated Mapping

Map the entire spray footprint autonomously. Our system traverses the spray cone to provide spatially resolved distributions, not just single-point data.

Geometry Validation

Instantly quantify global metrics like spray cone angle and footprint symmetry to ensure your nozzles meet their precise design specifications.
